Mission Statement

  • Tilia Projects is an occasional curatorial platform within the studio of Jeff Ostergren, located on Linden Street in the East Rock residential neighborhood in New Haven, CT.

  • Exhibitions are typically to be short in duration and open by appointment other than a single public event.

  • Definition of Tilia: a genus (the type of the family Tiliaceae) of trees that are native in temperate regions and often planted as shade trees, that are distinguished by having cordate leaves, a winglike bract coalescent with the peduncle, indehiscent fruit with one or two seeds, and soft easily carved wood, and that have a strong hybridizing tendency (Miriam Webster)

  • There are 40 Linden trees of the tilia genus currently living on Linden Street.(Urban Resources Initiative)

  • The new ideal of labor, including the artistic variety, is communicational and informational—performative, exteriorized, connective and context-dependent, weightless and event-like, immediate and punctual, compliantly modular and easily fragmented, on the spot and just in time. (Lane Relyea)

  • Goldman Sachs doesn’t care if you raise chickens.(Jodi Dean)

  • …it would probably be good to question what anyone means by being “present” or how “presence” is registered right now (e.g., 100,000 followers on Twitter: Who is being present to whom? Is anyone in that social configuration actually present or absent, or are both those conditions snared in some kind of technological scare quotes?) (Bruce Hainley)
